There can be many reasons why you might want to block some phone numbers either for outgoing or incoming calls. Fortunately, there are several simple methods that allow blocking phone numbers quickly and simply. As a rule, all you have to do is to call the special telephone service, visit a website, dial some number, etc.
We have made out a list of most convenient ways of blocking address digits. You can choose the one that suit you fine.
NDNCR Service
Mostly, people want to block calls coming from telephone marketers who can be really annoying. Federal Trade Commission administers NDNCR (National "Do Not Call" Registry), which helps to stop telemarketing calls in the USA. The service is free of charge. You just need to call 1-888-382-1222. Do it from your number, of course. Or you can visit NDNCR website. After your number has been added to the list, telemarketers will not call you because it will be illegal for them.
You can also register mobile phone numbers with "Do Not Call" Registry.
The similar services are provided in some other countries, so make inquiries about it.
Phone Companies' Services
Most phone companies allow blocking phone numbers. You should consult the website or support service of your company in order to find out how you can do it. When blocked callers try to ring you, they will hear a special signal or will be redirected to the message explaining that they are not welcomed.
Universal Blocking Codes
*67 is the universal code used for preventing your number from showing on the recipient's phone. Dial it before entering the phone number. You will have to use it before all the call that you want to be blocked. Remember that you are not able to prevent owners of 1-866 or 1-800 numbers from seeing the number that you call from.
Blocking Calls from Cell Phones
Sometimes it is not that easy to block calls from cell phones. Very often the only way out is to take usage of the Caller ID1 and prohibit accepting messages from unwanted phone numbers.
Handset Options
Some manufacturers of modern handsets provide features that allow you to block phone numbers. Such options can be in-built or require downloading.
Sony-Ericsson cell phones give the possibility to accept calls from the edited list.
Nokia phones working on Symbian2 allow installing application programs blocking specific numbers from calling you (like Blacklist).
Blackberry users can install the program named Efficient Call Blocker. Another one is CallsBlocker.
If you own a Samsung phone, you can send incoming calls to voicemail. You will not even hear ringing.
