Example How to Calculate GPA

Education & Reference / How to Calculate GPA

If you need to calculate the grade point average for college, it is a bit more complicated. The process is described in a step-by-step instruction below.

- Make a list of all your courses with letters assigned to each of them. The values of these letters are the following:
LetterValueF0D-0.7D1D+1.3C-1.7C2C+2.3

- Write down these values for all the letters you have got.
- Determine how many credit hours are assigned to your course. You can get the information in the classes' schedule or in the catalog. Write them down next to the letter values.
- Now you should multiply each letter value by the corresponding credit hours. This way you will calculate your grade points for all the courses.
- Add up all the grade points. Divide the sum total by the amount of your credit hours.
